How Does Soundproof Wallpaper Work?

nursery wallpaperIf you are looking for some aesthetically pleasing ways to soundproof the rooms of your own, then soundproof wallpaper may have crossed your mind. In recent years, this has emerged as a design trend for people who do not really want to change the living space too much, but desire rooms that are a bit quieter. This is especially common among people who share walls with neighbors, such as in apartments, condos, townhouses, and duplexes.

Of course, even in a semi-detached or detached house, you can still sometimes hear sounds from the neighbors that you would rather not have to listen to under normal circumstances. Regardless of your living situation, soundproofing wallpaper might be of benefit to you if there is a noise problem.

How Does Soundproof Wallpaper Work?

When you think about it, the idea of something as simple and thin as wallpaper being effective against unwanted noise sounds kinds of silly, huh? The truth is that it is not like your normal wallpaper because it is created with special layers that are designed to dampen noise via the wallpaper. Usually these layers are made up of either latex or foam with a top layer of normal wallpaper. Though the makeup is different, you will not notice any real differences when hanging the soundproofing wallpaper.

Does It Really Work?

Though it is hard to believe, this stuff really does work at reducing the noise pollution in your home. The layer of foam or latex effectively blocks and dampens those unwanted sounds that are coming in so that you end up with some serious noise reduction thanks to the wallpaper. If you do some comparison shopping, then you will even notice that some brands have an extra layer of sound absorbing foam for even more noise reduction in your home.

Where Can You Use Soundproofing Wallpaper?

Just like regular wallpaper, you can use the noise reducing variety in pretty much any room in your home. Basically, if you would hang regular wallpaper in the room, then you can use this stuff in there too. For many people, the bedroom is the most obvious place for this soundproofing product and it may be the only room that you actually need it in. A close second is a child’s room or nursery that experiences some noise from outside. Some people even use it in living rooms and home theater rooms to get a better acoustic environment for enjoying movies and television.
